What is the reason for procrastination? It comes about when you have to do something you really don’t want to do, something bad, something as terrible as ….working. So what do you do? You go online, go to Facebook, or read Blogs (that last one is pretty good though). However, procrastination doesn’t have to be such a big force in your life, thanks to these 5 apps. I can’t say it will make work fun, but it will help you get things done in an easier or more entertaining way.

1. Productivity Owl
This evil little owl helps you to find the information from websites fast. It’s evil because after a set amount of time the owl flies up and closes the page. This app for chrome features:

Blocked Sites- which the owl will shut down after a certain amount of time

Allowed Sites- work related sites that have no time limit

Free Time Scheduler- schedule your free time in advance so the owl won’t shut down your tabs

Growing Hatred of Owls- really, it just sits there are watches you and constantly annoys you

2. (10+2)x5 Procrastination Hack

This tool is a really unique but helpful system of working. Basically it is a timer that makes you work for 10 minutes and then lets you play for 2 minutes, and it does this cycle 5 times. This translates into 50 minutes of work and 10 minutes of play. I get distracted a lot and often have tiny tasks, so this allows me to keep on track while still getting to check out Facebook.

3. Written Kitten

One of the best writing procrastination tools. Why? Because kittens. You set your word count limit, and once you hit the limit a new photo of a kitten appears. It gets you writing fast because, although getting your work done is nice, seeing kittens is better.

4. Finish

Developed by two high school students in Colorado, it is a great tool to stay focused on what you need to get done. It is a scheduling app that makes sure you don’t forget about any deadlines or work that needs to be done and features quite a few features to do that. Such as:

Bother Me: which alerts you every hour to get your work done

Time Slider: that slides your tasks along a time line depending on the length of the work

Full Automation: it alerts you when you need to be and leaves you alone when you don’t

5. Busy

As the tagline goes “Stop Procrastination and get Busy”. This app helps you prioritize the things you need to get done. It doesn’t just do it by importance, but also by how likely you are to procrastinate on different tasks. Busy is helpful because it features:

Most Important Task Alerts- an automatic daily reminder to start working on your most important tasks

Drag and Drop- a very simple user interface that lets you move and sort tasks with a single gesture

Project Planning- each project has an inbox, importance rating, time frame, and done list

These 5 tools are fun and they save you time and keep you focused. Whether it is the thrill of seeing a kitten, or the dread of seeing an owl, you will keep on track and get your work done on time. You just need to stop procrastinating and download the app.
