Rip Google Reader. It made me crazy and that’s why we create Likehack - as a better alternative to Google Reader

14 Mar
March 14, 2013

Hy everybody. It’s Jane, Likehack founder. I think that today, when Google announced that they will shut down Google Reader I have to say thanks to Google Reader.

I understood, that Google Reader for many years made me feel, that news reading problem is not solved.

Of course, as guys on TechCrunch said, RSS is not useful. And of course, like guys from Mashable said, it saves your mind from lolcats)

But the main problem is that Google Reader always made me feel bad. Yes, I need to read Techcrunch, VentureBeat, etc. I want to read many things. But OMG, when I see these 100500 unread messages I feel sick.

I’ve been trying using Google Reader for many times. But it always ended because I felt that I am just not able to read all this. And I stopped.

Twitter and Facebook give better alternative because content is manually selected. But they have another problem - too much crap and no control)))

And that what I dream Likehack should be in a month when we will release beta.

No crap. Only manually selected content. Full control. And finally I will get only best for me from any site, blog or social feed. To feel better and stay in touch with the world.

P.S. And while we are still in Alpha - stay in touch, sign up at Likehack.com or use some more simple alternatives to Google Reader like listed here.

Personalized News at a Click

12 Jul
July 12, 2012

The days of walking down your sidewalk to pick up the morning paper are only memories for many people today. According to The State of the News Media 2012, “…mobile devices are adding to people’s news consumption, strengthening the lure of traditional news brands and providing a boost to long-form journalism. Eight in ten who get news on smartphones or tablets, for instance, get news on conventional computers as well. People are taking advantage, in other words, of having easier access to news throughout the day – in their pocket, on their desks and in their laps.” While ready access to the technology is a benefit, the technology itself is not making it any easier for you to locate the exact news stories that are of interest to you. The vastness of the internet is far greater than any traditional newspaper.
